New partnership with the Ontario Centres of Excellence

As security in online information storage, networking communications and commerce becomes a global priority, enhancements to the technology that keeps information safe are more important than ever.

A new partnership between Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) and Canada’s Smart Cyber Security Network (SERENE-RISC) will help by forging new relationships between researchers and companies that will lead to collaborative and innovative cybersecurity solutions.

“Working with SERENE-RISC will allow us to build the foundation for new industry-academic collaborations in the cybersecurity sector,” says Dr. Tom Corr, President and CEO of OCE. “In Ontario, tremendous gains are already being made in this important area. This partnership will lead to the commercialization of new cybersecurity technologies by expanding the national network of companies and emerging applied research.”

Together, OCE and SERENE-RISC will share knowledge of the companies and researchers working to mitigate cybersecurity threats and look for opportunities to build a community that will enhance the capacity of Canada’s cybersecurity ecosystem to manage digital risks while protecting citizens and consumers.

“The Smart Cybersecurity Network is always looking for new projects to leverage its expertise in knowledge mobilization and compiled research in cybersecurity,” says SERENE-RISC’s Scientific Director Dr. Benoît Dupont. “This new collaboration will enhance SERENE-RISC’s efforts to reach key stakeholders in the community.”

The Canadian Government and the head of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) said in November that strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity protocols is a top priority.
